As parents of toddlers, we know more than anyone else how much energy our kids have. Our time will mostly be spent chasing them around as they discover and continue to explore their own little world. Watching over our toddlers can be difficult as they are likely to venture into areas and try to get their hands on objects they’re not supposed to. This being the case, we put emphasis on child safety even more than we usually do.
As a provider of quality child care in Vineland, New Jersey, DiBiase Baby Steps urges you to keep a closer eye on your little ones during their toddler years, and keep in mind the following tips to ensure their safety:
- No Going near Bodies of Water Without Anyone Watching
There should always be a limit to the areas that your toddlers can explore on their own. If you’re in an area where there’s a pool, for instance, never leave your children alone as they could end up falling into the pool without you noticing.
- Toddler-Proof Your Home
This basically means putting plug covers on electrical outlets that are not being used and fencing off areas that could potentially be dangerous to your toddlers.
- Block off “Dangerous” Areas
Stairs, entryways to the pool or the toolshed should be blocked to ensure that your toddlers aren’t able to enter these areas unsupervised.
- Electrical Appliances and Tools Should Be Kept out of Reach
Toddlers’ curiosity could easily get them hurt so make sure to keep dangerous items out of their reach. Your child could be curious about the microwave oven, toaster, or other kitchen appliances because of how they look and the sounds they make.
- Safely Store Knives and Other Sharp Objects
Sharp objects are typically shiny items that could effortlessly capture a toddler’s attention. Getting a hold of these objects could cause your little ones to cut themselves or worse.
- Toddlers Should Never Be Left in the Vehicle Alone
Leaving your toddlers on their own in any vehicle, even if it’s just for a few moments, can be very dangerous. Take note that a few seconds could be all it takes for them to step on the gas and not only put themselves in danger, but other people as well.
- Store Your Guns Safely
Guns have been responsible for so many tragic events in recent years. If you happen to own firearms, make sure to handle them responsibly and store them where your toddler could never lay a hand on them.
