Tips: How to Baby-Proof Your Home

Tips: How to Baby-Proof Your Home

Safety and Security, these are major considerations for every parent. Whether their babies are at home or in a center for child care in Vineland, New Jersey, parents will always put safety and security as top priorities. In most reputable childcare centers, baby-proof practices are already in place. What about in your home?

The concept of baby-proofing focuses on the idea that babies should be allowed to explore. However, their exploration needs to be contained in certain parameters to ensure their safety. Our home is where our babies will mostly be in. So we need to ensure that this place is very safe for them.

As a provider of early childhood education in New Jersey, here are our tips on how you can set baby-proof measures at home:

  • Fences at Doors and Stairs

When babies already learn how to crawl, their exploration days officially begin. From their sleeping area, they can reach any part of the room for as long as the door is not closed. Outside their door, the hazards can be higher. To preserve the safety of your child, fence the inner part of the door and both ends of the stairs. This prevents your child from leaving their room, and consequently, keeps them generally safe inside.

  • Carpets on the Floor

As our precious babies learn to explore around, let us also ensure that the floor is soft, as soft as a carpet. The softness provides a cushion for your baby when trips or slips happen. While we don’t want falls to happen, these are still inevitable. Yet, with a soft floor, the baby can be kept safe.

  • Covers on Electric Sockets

Because electric sockets are natural “attractions” for these babies, ensure that you plug covers on them. Ensure that the plugs are clean and safe for the baby to touch. You can also cover these sockets with furniture so your little one will not be able to venture in that area of the house.

  • Disinfected Toys

In our day care center, we ensure that the items that children use are disinfected. Because of their young nature, children can easily acquire infection. If they get easily infected, they also get sick. Because babies love to put anything into their mouth, ensure that the toys at home are disinfected regularly. If not, don’t put these within the baby’s reach.

  • Constant Monitoring

Of course, parents cannot go wrong in constantly monitoring their baby. With their supervision, babies can be ensured to only get to the safe areas at home or receive help when they need to climb up. Babies should not be left alone on their own. It is very risky when the baby is unsupervised.
